Arlington Cemetary

We took the metro to Arlington Cemetery, which I was surprised by how interesting it was.  I didn't realize it was so close to DC; just over the bridge.
 Rows and rows of sadness
Here is RFK's section of the cemetery; it was very peaceful.
Here is JFK, Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis and their two children that died in infancy.  The eternal flame is behind them.
It was very moving standing there; we had to be silent and there were lots of tourists, so it was very special to all stand there quietly looking at the headstones.

Looking back at the city from the JFK Memorial
Hard to see, but some of Kennedy's quotes are inscribed on the walls
From here, we walked over the bridge to DC.  It was really hot so it was hard for the boys to keep focused.  I loved seeing all the history in DC.  We just don't have that same context in Vancouver.

Love Washington

 On the plane...flying to DC
The boys with their backpacks and Natives...
Oragutangs at the Smithsonian Zoo.  This is a great place to take kids and it is free.  A fantastic zoo that is a wonderful place to spend the day.

St. Matthew's Church, down the street from our hotel, The Beacon Hotel.  We stayed in such a fun area...close to Dupont Circle and near downtown.  Really central and fantastic!

 The National Cathedral
A Private Boys school by the Cathedral; loved the building.
Dad going off to work with the boys in tow!
Love the architecture; so different from Vancouver; these row houses are up for sale, too!

Washington DC

For an end of the school year treat, we decided to go to Washington DC and New York City!  Here are the boys, ready to head out the door!
 Pandas at the Smithsonian Zoo
 Time for a break

 Our new favourite place....Pinkberry's
Walking with Dad to the White House
Here we are at the White House...we couldn't cross the street to get a better look because an event was going on and security would not allow people to get any closer.
