Owls in the Family

Max's Grade Four class read "Owls in the Family" and each student did a research project on an owl of their choice.  As well, they had owls visit the classroom.  These two owls are from an Owl Conservation Organization called O.W.L located in Delta BC.

I knew so little about owls, but now, I am in love with owls.  I couldn't believe the beauty of these creatures.

 Max is enjoying the presentation!

This is Chance, who is used to visiting classrooms and teaching students about owls.  I loved him.  Here he is looking right through me with his huge yellow eyes.

My favourite picture.  I am so excited to take the kids to see other birds of prey in Delta.  I hope we can see the snowy owl!

Baking with Maximilian

Maximilian and I did some baking; Magda made these beautiful aprons for the kids.

Christmas Concerts and Hockey Games

 I
I couldn't get a good picture of the boys at the Christmas Concert; they were behind other students.  They did a great job!  It was a lovely evening.
Then, later in the week, onto a hockey game.  The students from the school took part in this reading and physical exercise program for a few weeks, and then they got the opportunity to go to a hockey game.  A new experience for us and we are not really into hockey.   Here the kids throw stuffed animals on the rink after the Giants scored their first goal.  It was a bit surreal for us.  Spectator sports for the Canadian crowd!!!

At one point, a fight broke out and everyone started yelling "fight, fight, fight!!!".  I was totally shocked and it freaked me out a little bit.  I guess we aren't used to that kind of sport!

Christmas book Advent calendar

Christmas book Advent calendar

Although mine looks nothing like this fantastic display, I thought I would try this great idea!

Advent Calendar

I got this great idea from babyccinokids.com
It is an advent book calendar. I sourced out 24 children's Christmas related books over the last year, and wrapped them last night.  On Wednesday, December 1st, the boys will share opening one per day, and read the books to me, before bed time.

They are really excited about reading the books.  The best thing is, it practices their oral reading skills, which is always important!

Snow Day

School was canceled due to snow; horray!  We love snow days.  The public system was still in session; so glad we are in the Catholic system and they take snow seriously:  seriously for play and walks with Boris and sledding!

Bruno and the Birthday Party

Here is Bruno at his friend, Luca's birthday party.  Not sure what to do; while the other kids are going crazy, Bruno does his awkward pose where he flexes his arms and stands there.

Sometimes I worry; but I know what it is:  shyness, and a bit of social awkwardness; he likes to be behind the scenes; he likes being with one friend.
Bruno got my shyness and Chris's introversion.  And, most of all, both of our stubbornness.  A quiet, but powerful force is our Bruno!

Photos for our Christmas card....lots of photos and sitting time!  I think the camera was on too low a setting.

Leaves and raking

Bruno loves to rake the leaves; he wants to save money; he asked if his piggy bank could hold a million dollars.  I wish!

Brunch and a Play

Took the boys to see the Hallowe'en play "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow".  It was lots of fun and got us into the spirit of Hallowe'en!

Hallowe'en Night!!!

This year, we packed up the house, turned out the lights, and went out as a family trick o treating in the neighbourhood!  It was fun to be together!

The boys were supposed to be ghouls, but they looked very stylish in jeans and sweaters and well, not too scary...

Carving Pumpkins

Chris carves pumpkins with Bruno....so much fun!  I was so happy; after carving pumpkins for so many years it is fun to have Dad help out!
